Jerome (Jerry) Gudknecht is the founder and Principal Technology Consultant of XTechWare. Jerry has over 20 years experience in Information Technology.
Jerry is an Infrastructure Cloud Architect and Engineer specializing in Automation and Orchestration. Jerry’s most recent experience is in Amazon Web Services, utilizing Terraform and Jenkins to automate deployment of resources to AWS and configuration management automation on Windows and Linux platforms using Puppet, including development of custom facts, types and providers for Puppet to integrate with various external systems such as AWS APIs, CMDB and IPAM systems. Jerry also has extensive experience in developing custom stand alone tools using Ruby, PowerShell and bash shell scripting. Prior to working on AWS public cloud automation, Jerry worked with VMware vRealize Automation and Orchestration tools developing private cloud automation solutions. Jerry presented his vRealize solutions at VMworld 2016 in both Las Vegas and Barcelona.
Prior to focusing on Cloud Infrastructure automation, Jerry had extensive experience in Windows and Active Directory architecture, engineering and operations. Jerry has held lead engineering and architectural roles in several large global enterprises with responsibilities focused on the Windows platform as well as Directory and Name Services. Jerry has been key in implementing several large scale Active Directory upgrade, merger/migration and bifurcation/divestiture projects as well as top to bottom greenfield implementations. Jerry has extensive experience in creating custom automation for Windows and Directory Services using C, C++, C#, VB, BAT/CMD Scripts, PowerShell, HTML, ASP and SQL. Jerry has MCSE certifications on the Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 platforms as well as MCSA and MCDBA certifications.

Prior to his transition to the IT field, Jerry held several electronics technician/electrical engineering positions in the semiconductor manufacturing and semiconductor equipment manufacturing industries as well as the consumer and automotive electronics industries. Most of Jerry’s prior experience was related to factory automation. Jerry has been working with electronics since elementary school. Jerry holds an Associates Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology. Jerry is an FCC licensed General Class Amateur Radio operator. Jerry has been into computers and programming since he got his first computer, a Timex Sinclair 1000 which was programmed in BASIC.
